BEHOLD THE BABE OF
Dr. Luke uses the word “babe” four times; twice in reference to John the Baptist,
and twice in reference to Jesus.
Luke 1:41 And it came to pass, that,
when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary,
the babe leaped in her womb;
and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
Luke 1:44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears,
the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
Luke 2:12 And this shall be a sign unto you;
Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes,
lying in a manger.
Luke 2:16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph,
and the babe lying in a manger.
The word for “babe is brefov. STRONGS SAYS
(1025) brefov, — bref’-os; of uncertain affinity; an infant
(properly unborn) literal or figurative: — babe, (young) child,
infant.
IT IS INTERESTING TO NOTE THAT THE SAME WORD brefov, — bref’-os
used by Divine Inspiration in the penned words of the Beloved Physician (Luke),
is the very same word
USED FOR AN UNBORN BABY - LUKE 1:41, & 44
AND ALSO USED FOR A BORN BABY – LUKE 2:12, 16
IT IS ALSO INTERESTING TO NOTE
THAT THE SAME WORD
IS USED FOR THE BABY JESUS WHO WAS THE LORD OF GLORY
AS FOR JOHN THE BAPTIST WHO WAS A MERE MORTAL.
Jesus became as fully human as John.
Behold the Babe of Bethlehem.
I. HE WAS BORN SINLESS
LUKE 1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
MATT. 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
THIS IS THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
THAT WE ARE INTERESTED IN TODAY.
THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
OF THE IMPECCABLE CHRIST
WE MERE MORTALS WERE NOT
IMMACULATELY CONCEIVED.
WE WERE BORN SINNERS.
Psalms 51:5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity;
and in sin did my mother conceive me.
Even Mary said
Luke 1:47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
THIS IS NOT TO SAY THAT AN UNBORN FETUS SINS.
Romans 9:11 (For the children [ Jacob & Esau ] being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)
BUT LISTEN TO WHAT THE SCRIPTURE SAYS
Ps 58:3 The wicked are estranged from the womb:
they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.
II.
BEHOLD THE BABE OF
BORN SINLESS,
BUT BORN TO BECOME SIN
2 Cor. 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
If we were hunting today for the most perfect man who ever lived,
and the most wicked man who ever lived,
they would both be the same man – Jesus.
then see all of his sins being placed on Jesus on the cross
(Jesus takes his place).
1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
Now, try to imagine the 2nd most wicked man of all time,
and then see his sins being placed on Jesus
along with the sins of the most wicked man who ever lived.
Do that for the 3rd most wicked man,
continue into the millions and billions of sinners
and sins beyond description.
OH,
WHAT A SINNER!
BRINGS
ME TO MY LAST POINT:
OH,
WHAT A SAVIOR.
Behold the
Babe of Bethlehem,
BORN
SINLESS, … BORN TO BECOME SIN,
III. BORN TO BE THE SAVIOR FROM SIN
Luke 2:10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
BORN
TO BE BEHELD,
THE
ONE TO WHOM WE ARE FOREVER BEHOLDEN.
John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
1 John 3:5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
1 John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins
Behold Him today! There is life in a look.
IT IS IN THE BELIEVING,
THE BEHOLDING BY FAITH
THAT A PERSON IS SAVED.
Isa 45:22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
WHERE CAN YOU LOOK
FOR THE SOLUTION FOR YOUR SIN?
LOOK TO THE SAVIOR.
The one whose birth we are celebrating,
The Babe of Bethlehem.
